While watching the little speech at the start of the original Star Trek show, it actually made most of us feel fascinated about space. Those fleeting feelings drove us for our love of astronomy and our desire to learn more from it every day.

The most exciting thing when it comes to studying the universe is also the most frustrating and this is the idea that no matter how expert we become in this field, we feel that we still do not know enough about it. Don’t worry about that thought. In fact, even the most brilliant minds of science like Copernicus and Einstein looked up into space and felt like they were just a tiny fragment in the vast and infinite universe.

Of course the universe is not finite. There must be an end of it. However, nobody has ever figured out where the universe or space ends. The only thing that led us to the end of the universe is our limited capability to look more deeper in it.

However, conquering the last frontier of space means more than just seeing stars, planets and other heavenly bodies, there are also new questions that will definitely arise such as how space works and what lays ahead for us to conquer? The big bang theory and the expanding universe concept is not enough o blow your mind away. The coming of Einstein’s theory of relativity makes it even more confusing as this theory proposes that he space is a dimension of time which then makes us think that time travel might be possible.

The space is much of a journey of the mind as it is of distance. When the mysteries of black holes have been presented to us by Steven Hawking, we then realized that the dimension of time from Einstein’s theory of relativity can collapse as black holes have the capacity to distort and change time and space. These ideas and concepts wouldn’t be possible if radio astronomy was not developed.

The brilliance of Hawking and Einstein have resulted to a born of the string theory that could revolutionize the way we know about space and how the universe relates to it. We cannot say that we have discovered enough. The space is the final frontier. The Starship Enterprise would not exploring and so should we. There are a lot of things that we do not know about space yet and we do not have an answer to it yet. This is often called the Unified Field Theory and this is the theory that will answer all the unanswered questions about space.

These concepts need some tools to put an extent on the space in context. This is the reason why a lot of science fiction writers that deals on stories about space gives us an idea that space is knowable that despite its vastness and infinity, we can still conquer it even if we are just tiny spec in it.

For man, that is enough. If we have the vision, then we can conquer something even if it big and seemingly impossible to conquer. The love for astronomy has brought mankind to a common goal of conquering the vast universe. The goal to create an international space station and to cooperate on spreading our reach off of this planet seems to find unity between nations that cannot get along on the surface of the earth.
