I tried to kill my husband once (“Only once?” you say). He wasn’t my husband yet and to be perfectly honest, I never did actually tell him to put his face over it after lighting the match and dropping it in. But I am getting ahead of myself.

My father worked for the government. He was a quality control engineer overseeing a defense contract with a private sector company that built missiles and missile delivery systems. “Ahhh,” you are saying, “Rockets.”

During the time that he was working with this particular company, a General, who was my father’s immediate superior, had cause to visit Japan. The General knew of my father’s love of the art of barbecuing. Dad loved nothing better than a good steak, carefully barbecued, rare and dripping with juices. While in Japan, the General came across a truly awe inspiring hibachi. This was not your garden variety hibachi that you may purchase just about anywhere. I laugh, ha-ha, when I see what passes for a hibachi these days. The General shipped it directly to our house. When it first arrived, we had no idea what it was or what to do with it, but it was attractive. Mom was heard to say, “Okay…” on a rising, questioning note.

A real, honest to goodness, Japanese hibachi is a sight to behold. Standing at about three feet tall, it looked a lot like a giant Chinese ginger jar complete with cap. The outer surface was pebbled and colored a nice dark, peaceful green. The trim was black as was the inside in anticipation; I am sure, of the blackening that would ensue as it was used. The Japanese have always given great thought to the aesthetics of their products.

The base was probably at least two feet in diameter and had a plug that could be adjusted to control the flow of air or remove spent charcoal. At about the two foot high mark, it flared out significantly and there was a seam that created a hinged lid. The lid tapered drastically to a short chimney, with a diameter of maybe six inches, which had a removable cap. So now you are probably saying, “All right already. Enough about the hibachi. Let’s get to the killing part.” But this is important and you will see why in a moment.

My dad died in August of 1969 and I met my husband-to-be in September of 1970. I tell you this to give you an idea of the era in which this all transpired. It was a more innocent time. Kids, teenagers, didn’t know some of the things then that 12 year olds know today. Well, okay, there probably is no way to put a good spin on this.

Sometime during the autumn of 1971, the family was having a barbecue. It was a Saturday. I know this because my grandmother (Dad’s mom) was there. She always visited on Saturday. Also present were Bernd (the husband-to-be), my sister (Deb) and mom (Sue), her fiancé (Lew) and me. Some how, it fell to Bernd and me to light the barbecue…excuse me…hibachi.

My father had always done this and it never seemed to bother him. He would stack the charcoal just so, douse it thoroughly with starter fluid and nonchalantly toss in a lit match. Voila! Barbeque. Bernd and I were not nearly so sanguine about the whole thing. Both of us were a bit nervous about the explosive fuel and subsequent fire. Hey, give us a break! We were young and inexperienced.

We had loaded the charcoal and were standing there discussing the best technique for lighting it when Lew opened the sliding glass door and said, “Come on. Light the darn thing already.” By that time, we had come up with a plan and implemented it forthwith. The plan was mostly mine which is why I shoulder the blame, but Bernd did agree it sounded good on “paper.” We had little practical knowledge of certain principles of physics and were fairly confident in our plan. They say that ignorance is bliss, but I am not so sure. Considering what my father had done for a living, I probably should have known better.

I thoroughly doused the charcoals with starter fluid as I had seen my father do. Bernd slammed down the lid and quickly lit a match. Leaning over the chimney (at six feet and two inches he was well able to lean way over), he dropped it down the chimney. Immediately, there came a massive “whump” followed by a loud “whoosh.”

Fortunately for Bernd at this most critical moment in his life, he was quite near-sighted and always wore eyeglasses. This saved his sight, or this story might have had a different beginning.

The “whump” was the sound of the starter fluid vapor exploding and trying to blow the very heavy lid up and open. It failed. If only it had succeeded. The “whoosh” was a lot of hot gas and flame exhausting out of the chimney in a condensed stream. Picture a rocket nozzle. What were we thinking!? Bernd’s somewhat longish hair (remember the Hippies of the 60’s and early 70’s?) was blown back and away from his face. The whole thing was over in a second. He looked at me and I think I may have screamed.

Poor Bernd (I’ve said before that he is severely beset upon and long suffering for having married me) had instantly acquired a really good imitation of a very bad sunburn. His eyebrows were completely missing as was all his hair for about two inches back from his hairline. In its place was a very foul smelling stubble. The rest of his hair, while still on his head, looked a bit too crispy to survive any kind of hairbrush or comb. When I looked closer, I saw that his eyelashes appeared to have been melted. I turned to look at the sliding glass door and saw Grandma standing there. She was kind enough to open the door just a crack and say to me, “I knew you shouldn’t do that.” Thank you, Grandma.

We decided he should go home. We thought maybe taking a shower and washing his hair was a good idea. He smelled really bad. We piled into his car, rolled all the windows down and headed across town. My mom, unknown to us, had called his mom and told her what happened. So I was greeted with a very loud and indignant, “You did what to him?” in her lovely German accent. Boy was she upset.

On Monday, Bernd did not go to his classes. Instead, his mom took him to a hair dresser to assess the damage and discuss options. To this day, I don’t know why she was so upset that the only course of action was to buzz off the rest of his hair. She had been trying for weeks to get me to talk Bernd into cutting his long hair. I had refused to use my influence in that way. Be careful what you wish for.

The roasted smell left him, eventually, and his hair grew back. He wore it defiantly long for several years after. It took me a long, long time to get over the guilt I felt at blasting him in the face with a rocket motor. We laugh about it now. He has never stopped loving me and he has never stopped doing what I tell him. You’d think he’d know better. He does, however, give it a good think through first.

So, the next time someone says to you that this, that or the other thing is not rocket science, you may safely say, “Yes, but lighting a barbecue is.”
About the Author:

The Goal Of Rocket Piano: According the author, Ruth Searle, you will discover how to read music, how to improvise, how to play Jazz and Gospel, and how to play with the magic and feel of a professional. We designed Rocket Piano to be the easiest system to learn to play the piano available anywhere.

Who Will Benefit Most From This Piano Lesson Course? This Piano Course is designed for beginners through intermediate players.

What Kind of Piano Does This Course Require? The Rocket Piano lessons are designed for both acoustic pianos and electric keyboards.

About The Instructor: Ruth Searle In her own words: I am classically trained in Solo Piano and have more than 15 years experience playing. While Classical piano is my specialty I also have extensive experience performing Jazz, Pop, Blues, Rock, and Gospel. I spent three years studying music and graduated with a Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in Commercial Music. I also received an Australasian Award for Composition.

The Physical Parts: 218 step-by-step lessons in 3 printable Ebook downloads, 57 video lessons, 133 audio files, Jazz Piano Book, Rocket Piano Gospel, Spiritual and Hymns Book, New Piano Quizzes

The Rocket Piano Bonus Software: 1. Metronome Software for speed and timing training. 2. The Chordinator teaches you to read chords from a musical staff in interactive game format. 3. Jayde Musica Pro is another software game that is cleverly designed to develop your ability to quickly identify the pitch of a note with its musical symbol and its letter name.

The Negatives: Downloadable lesson programs used to be frustrating to download, organize and quickly retrieve the bits of audio and video as needed. This has been brilliantly fixed with special free download management software that does all of the file organizing for you. Just click on a video or audio button in the ebook and it pops to the foreground.

The only significant weakness is that this is basically a written program with audio and video enhancements instead of an all-video program. They have, however, done a masterful job of supporting each written lesson with well produced photos, diagrams, audio, video and play-along jam tracks.

The Positives: 1. The price is a bargain at $39.95. 2. The volume and selection of lessons is good. 3. The author/ instructor Ruth Searle does a nice job. 4. The bonus software items are genuinely useful and worth the $39.95 by themselves. 5. The quality of the audio and video snippets are excellent.

The Cost Analysis: The price is $39.95 and includes all of the items mentioned above. Rocket Piano Lessons with Ruth Searle contains the equivalent of 6 months to a year of lessons if you were to space them out as if you were taking lessons from a local piano teacher. A local instructor typically will charge anywhere from $20 to $50 USD per weekly lesson. Your minimum cost, not including materials, at only $20 per lesson for 6 to 12 months would be approximately $520 to $1040 USD .

The choice comes down to Rocket Piano at $39.95 USD or a local instructor at $520.

Support: An extensive online Frequently Asked Questions section is available plus online email support. A well used forum with piano related questions and answers is also available. Every Rocket Piano member is entitled to lifetime updates of the software and lessons.

Guarantee: If you are not satisfied for any reason, simply return it within sixty (60) days for a full refund of the purchase price.

The Bottom Line: My top recommendations always lean towards instrumental music lesson programs that are all-video. They generally offer a clearer method of communicating lots of subtle information. Having said that, I feel that Rocket Piano is the absolute Best partial audio and video enhanced, written lessons I have ever seen. At only $39.95 it is also the least expensive one.

Rocket Piano is perfect for someone that does not wish to spend $150- $200 for an all-video program. It is an excellent, complete, professional, low-cost way to get started with learning to play piano. For these reasons, I recommend, with out hesitation, the Rocket Piano lesson program.
About the Author:

[July 16, 2126 AD] The engineering of the Space Tomb was simple, it was like a comet, it drew its energy from the sun, and the Tomb gave energy to its occupants. It had a cooling system, and when farthest away from a star or sun it—when it got coldest—as space can be 250 Fahrenheit, below zero—(and so their Thermometer read), there was always enough energy locked into its system to carry on until it needed to gather up more of a supply at its next destination; and hibernation for the crew members was always a way of conserving energy, thus the two astronauts would go into such a state. And unless disturbed by some kind of turbulence, the inertia, or state of the capsule, and the condition of the astronauts inside it, remained in a reposed arrangement, until woken up at its next destination; woken up only if disturbed because of a disturbance. But most often they never knew they where traveling in space, for there was no obstacles blocking their vessel’s path, it was just a dark, cold endless, tireless, ongoing ocean of nothing (space), until they looked out a window and saw they were getting closer to something, an object, a planet, light, a passing comet, or asteroid field.

The scientists from earth had deciphered the lettering on the space craft, they once called the Space Tomb, before they destroyed it; it was called Cibara—#7, they were not sure what that was, but their best guess was their right guess, it was another planet, in another solar system; or at least Tom Macare, came to that conclusion, and his boss Toño, who worked at the Los Andes Space Observatory [Peruvian]. A few months after the United States Military Comet-Probe, destroyed the Space Tomb with a small nuclear blast, this discover was brought out in the scientist journals by Tom and Toño (their assistant, Milan Thomas ((English)) had quite because of the destructive way the military had acted with the Space Tomb).

Northwest Side of the Moon

International-NASA (now owned by the United Nations), had allowed another space exhibition, journey that is, from the University of Minnesota, for the purpose of younger students to study the physical structure [geological studies] of the moon; wherein, they would provide all information to them upon their return, before releasing it to the University for others to study. It would be a four hour flight to the moon, and the astronauts would have to be put into a state of relaxation, called the ‘repose state’ where the body functions normally, according to the body needs and not according to the elements of the environment.

At present, the International Space Station was but 100,000-miles from the earth with scientists from Russia, England and France along with Americans; and the Hobble Space Telescope III, was 43,000-miles from that. The moon, being about 110,000-miles from the Telescope; all was in place when their space craft left the Florida coast, and the space telescope from the Los Andes Observatory along with the Hobble III, followed their movements. It was routine for the most part; yet it no expeditions were allowed for a year because of the nuclear blast being so close to the moon, they wanted to test the molecular debris around the Moon, and within a 2000-mile radius from the moon to space. Thus, the clear sign was given.

—At this time, Tom Macare and Toño positioned their telescope back onto the moon, knowing where they were going to land they scanned the area. They did not know the two surviving Cibaralites were alive and well on the opposite side of the moon, the northwest side. They had survived the blast, and the ongoing elements of the moon, with its freezing temperatures and so forth. They had journeyed to what was known as Mare Imbrium (a Mare being like a dried up sea for the most part), not far from them was where Apollo 15 had landed years prior to this, now ancient history of course. Consequently, they crossed over to Stadius, otherwise known as the Ghost Crater. Here, they found, in-between fissures towards the bottom of the crater, a home like cave, wherein they made their home for a year. They had plugged their bodies into their shell like apparatuses that they used to descend to the moon from their spacecraft; this cave allowed them to have these devises grounded into the walls of the crater, where the machine could extract the vital oils and resources their bodies needed to survive, and transform them into matter their body could use for nourishment. To the southwest of them was Mare Humorum, and to the north, Copernicus.

By some kind of second insight, they knew the spacecraft from earth, to the moon had taken off with Doctor Peter Leaky, and his two students, Hans Bosbash, from Frankfurt, Germany, and Luiz Colitt, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The doctor, fifty-seven years old, was married, with no children, and the two students, both 26-years old, were not married. By the time the expedition had landed with their space unit, and spacesuits on the moon, on the eastside of the moon, nearby where Apollo 11, historical landing, the two stranded astronauts from the Space Tomb, were watching the three earthlings gathering rocks and testing them, some three hundred-yards from their craft.

As the two closed in on the space unit, they were not noticed at all, therefore, they crept into the unit unseen. The two worked as a team, the female seemingly quicker with figuring out how the mechanics of the space unit worked, and how to operate it manually. The husband, or male astronaut, looked about, and then caught the eyes of Hans. Hans wiped his eyes quickly, to see if what he was seeing was really what he was seeing; and the two ducked down, but again, it seemed the two Cibaralites did not panic, as if they knew by instinct the three was not coming. Matter-of-fact, Hans mentioned it to the Doctor, in a passing sort of way, and all three looked at the unit gracefully, but came to the no conclusion, and accepted it as a mirage; for they all went back to working; which they would regret in a moments time, for no longer had they turned their heads back to the scientific investigations they were doing, when the space unit started ascending.

(Let me leap back to the Ghost Crater a moment, before all this too place.)—During this time period, Tom had seen the Cibaralites crossing over like deer, leaping from one spot to the next, in northwestern part of the Moon, by Stadius, to the eastern part, but he said nothing; not even to Toño who was sleeping. He had made a mistake a year ago, and he was not going to do another. It was—he felt—the fate of the earthlings, or astronauts, as it was the fate of the Cibaralites a year ago. Thus, where does one step into preserving the other? But the second thought on his mind was, ‘…where was their next destination?’ As the two leaped from spot to spot, they both carried their shell like devises with them, the ones that kept them alive for over a year on the Moon, and the ones that they had descended to the Moon in from their spacecraft, so dubbed the Tomb by earths scientists.

It is a sad tale, but I must finish it. Once they reached the International Space Vessel, again it was not long for the female to figure out the operational expertise of the space vessel, and relay it to her mate. And within minutes they were space bound. And the three astronauts were left on the moon with an hour’s air; and the two inside the space vessel, turned off all communications with Florida and Huston, within their craft automatically turned off all communications with the stranded astronauts.

Destination Sedna

Sedna/by Pluto and Beyond

Doctor Macare looked at his monitoring screen pertaining to the international vessel, and across its computer read: “Sedna, Sedna, Sedna…and then, Cibara, Cibara…” as if the Cibaralites new what he wanted to know, which was his pay for silence I suppose. Then the screen went blank. Tom and Toño, already knew where Sedna was, it ranged between 450 to 1000-million miles from earth during its orbit; it was a brown asteroid looking orb, two thirds the size of Planet Pluto, and that is was in the direction they were headed. He was then wondering: perhaps Pluto, Sedna and Cibara were all by one another, and Sedna crossed over into another solar system, where Cibara was.

Anything was possible at this point. Then as the computer had went black, at that moment Toño woke up looked towards Tom and the blank computer, asked, “Amigo, what has happened?”
premium themes for wordpress

Rocket Piano is a series of eBooks, games and MP3 files that you can download and become a member. The eBooks cover everything you could ever want to know about playing the piano. Rocket Piano is top notch when it comes to an interactive piano tutorial. This is great for children and adults both! Rocket Piano is by far the most comprehensive piano training program available online.

Rocket Piano is compiled into 3 high-quality books lifting your skills from a beginner to a professional. Now it goes a step further. The bottom line is that Rocket Piano is made by professionals, to turn more people into professionals. It has a wealth of great material that will really help you learn how to play the piano. Rocket Piano is a complete piano learning system, and contains everything you need to know to play piano. And it is easy to follow, it is all laid out in a step-by-step method.

Rocket Piano is a very professionally done piano lesson package. It also includes audio tracks, and video tracks to support the instructional material. It is centered on three lesson books containing 218 lessons which are jam-packed with information. The lessons are presented in a step-by-step manner which will provide you with the fundamentals you need to learn, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced player. I found that Rocket Piano is as effective as one on one piano tutoring sessions. I personally felt comfortable and at ease with Rocket Piano step by step training course for beginners to intermediates.

Rocket Piano includes hundreds of sound files, pictures, diagrams, videos AND step-by-step instructions training you to play by ear, so you can learn to play virtually any piano song that you ever heard.

Theory, chord, scales, songs, playing rhythm, style, and much more are all there for your reading pleasure. Music notation is also important and after my review, nothing has been left out. I highly recommend this product because I do believe it will deliver results and have you playing popular songs like a professional using the most effective techniques. There is something here for every piano player, regardless of ability.

Rocket Piano mainly focuses on the very quality of the exercises, since lots of amateurish players don’t know how to practice efficiently. Once you get to master the techniques described in the course, ten minutes of practice will equal hours of faulty or improper training. Mind you I’m a very hard person to please because I’ve tried practically everything under the sun when it comes to piano self study courses. The people at Rocket Piano provide a better way for people to learn piano.

There is really no substitute for good practice and gradually developing your hands and muscle memory for fast piano playing. By changing your daily habits and basing them around the piano, you will further your skills along at a much higher rate than simply practicing for a few minutes. However – if you want to teach your child to play the piano or you are a children’s piano teacher – this program is for you and it is practically unbeatable.

It is also a comprehensive and easy to master technique that will have the student who implements the lessons playing better and better each day with greater quality music than before. It really does accelerate the already accelerated learning process.

I had to drive 22 miles to take my piano classes, which became rather boring as time went by, so I decided to stop again. Anyway, I bought Rocket piano and found out that you will get a long way with it, not to mention all the money I save now. Download rocket piano torrents . It has thousands of rocket piano torrent files. It’s great for beginners who are just getting started with the piano and also for those of you who are intermediate to advanced players who want to improve your skills and move to the next level. You can be learning the piano within minutes from right now!

Rocket Piano is by far the most comprehensive piano training program available online, and is THE BEST piano course on the market for its price. I highly recommend it, and you should definitely get it to improve your piano playing skills.

Article Written By J.

The thing about learning to play piano by ear, when you first start out, is that it will take a while and you will need to be patient. When I first started out it took me quite some time and I had to work through quite a lot of frustrating moments but in the end it was much more rewarding.

Actually learning piano can be a lot of fun. There is something about the physical connection between hand, ear, eye, and brain involved in learning to play piano which stimulates learning in general.

What reason is there for learning to play piano you might ask? Keeping the mind in shape is certainly one reason. Learning to play piano by ear first though will refine your listening skills and eventually make reading sheet music a lot easier. Learning to play can be a great joy for many reasons. Music can express an important part of ourselves that can reach expression in no other way.

One major advantage to piano playing over other instruments is that the piano is played with more than one note. This means if you learn to play piano, you can accompany other instruments and even singers.

For an example, when multiple notes are played together, piano chords are achieved. The chords then come together to form a melody. Learning to identify notes will play a large part in your understanding of piano chords. As you move through your studies, you will learn all of the terminology associated with piano playing and the definition of each.

In an evening, someone who knows nothing about the piano might have the ability to play a melody just on chords alone. Playing by chords is usually encouraged more than playing by tablature. In my experience, the focus should be on enjoying the experience and to savor the time that is available for playing and practice. Get ready for some stinging stumbles though and some stress along the way, but please don’t be turned off by that.

Take pride in small accomplishments and recognize little improvements along the way. Learning to play the piano is a life long process.

One of the best way to get started and learn to play piano in my opinion is an online piano course called “Rocket Piano” created by Ruth Searle. Ruth by the way, is classically trained to Grade 8 in Solo Piano and has more than 15 years experience playing. While Classical piano is her specialty She also has extensive experience playing and performing Jazz, Pop, Blues, Rock, and Gospel. She spent three years studying music and graduated with a Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in Commercial Music, also received an Australasian Award for Composition.

Rocket Piano is jam-packed with quality information, including hundreds of sound files, pictures, diagrams, videos lessons AND step-by-step instructions training you to read music AND play by ear, so you can play virtually any song that you hear – this is truly cutting-edge material! With Rocket Piano you’ll discover how to read music, how to improvize, how to play Pop,Jazz, Blues and Gospel, and how to play with the magic and “feel” of a professional. It is designed to be the easiest system to learn to play piano available anywhere.

This is also a cheaper alternative in learning to play piano. You can choose the most convenient time to learn to play the instrument and in your chosen pace. Learning to play piano by ear is a big step and this course will give you all of the help you need, the less it costs the better right?

Rocket Piano will guide you through the basics you need to know in order to play by ear, including what chords you need to know, developing your playing technique, notes, difficult chords and more.

Rocket Piano is the only educational program in the world that can teach even a 2 year old child to play piano with both hands and read music notes. This piano learning online course is useful for a beginner as well as an advanced student to develop the skills of fluent music reading and immaculate piano playing. This will help you over time, to identify the notes, intervals and patterns of the chords being played. It may be a little tough in the beginning, but you will become proficient at it soon.

More and more adults are finding themselves taking piano lessons. Piano lessons can be a good mental exercise and help with keeping the brain active as we age. These events are not only enjoyable in and of themselves but give you the opportunity to focus on enjoying music while you are learning to play piano.

Article Written By J.

Fantastic Four is an exciting movie. With great special effects and loyalty to the comic book, this is an awesome film for all of the old Fantastic Four fans as well as today’s new generation of fans.

The movie is centered around the effects caused by an experiment aboard an orbiting satellite owned by Victor Doom (Julian McMahon). The four scientists Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis), Susan Storm (Jessica Alba) and Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) become exposed to an intense radiation storm while aboard the space station and develop superhuman powers. Reed Richards gets the ability to stretch his body. Sue Storm can becomes invisible and generate force fields. Johnny Storm is able to withstand and control fire. Ben Grimm later turns into a “thing” of solid rock and becomes incredibly strong!

Together, this “Fantastic Four”, so named by a crowd of people that see what they can do, while trying to reverse their powers eventually detect and realize that they must stop the evil plans of Victor Doom, a billionaire businessman. He later becomes Dr. Doom as his body also changes from the radiation he was exposed to aboard his own space station. His body slowly turns into a super strong metal alloy that gives him the ability to absorb and control electricity.

In the beginning the movie, Dr. Richards approaches Victor Doom with a business proposition involving research on genetics and finding a cure for a wide variety of diseases. They agree to use Doom’s orbiting space station to observe a unique space storm that contains the building blocks of life. Everything seems routine until the storm picks up speed and hits the station far ahead of schedule.

Caught completely by surprise, everyone on the space station is affected, though none of them are aware of it…until the genetic changes begin to happen.

That is when everything starts getting complicated. Sue Storm and Dr. Reed Richards become united in finding a cure for their “special powers”, but in the process have to get past their personal conflict with each other. Once in love, they had a painful end to their relationship. Suddenly reunited by fate, they now try to be professional with each other in order to figure out a way to change themselves back the way they used to be.

Ben Grimm, who suffers the most when his total appearance is altered into a walking huge hulk of living rocks. Even though he has a heart of gold, his girlfriend rejects him immediately, frightened by reason of his new body. Ben Grimm even endures more humiliation when the press spreads the name “The Thing” given to him by Johnny Storm in a press interview. It turns out he cannot even use an elevator because his weight exceeds the limit of what elevators can handle, over two thousand pounds.

The movie grows more intense as Doom grows in his abilities and ambitions for power. Like his personality, he remains cold to human suffering, caring only for what he can use and control. Soon, the Fantastic Four challenged by Doom and forced into trying to stop him from killing and destroying millions of innocent people.

“Fantastic Four” is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action and suggestive content.
About the Author:

Look far and wide, and what do we see? The most civilized nations, at least, the ones we’ve got at this point in our nascent human development, having made an uneasy accommodation to behavior that they would historically wretch at as downright repellent.

It’s none other than the law of Hammurabi, or tit for tat, writ in TNT.

So we arrive at the big question. What hath terrorism wrought?

These merciless scoundrels have compelled us to transform our own sense of right and wrong into a workable counterpoint to their own beastly behavior. We have been compelled to consider killing them as a regrettably acceptable ethical necessity and, if a few thousand civilians happen to get in the way, what else can we do but keep the bombs and rockets flying.

This transformation of our own generally commendable ethical sense is, other than killing and maiming us physically, the most deleterious result of the murderous amorality of the terrorists. It is, if you will, their second-saddest triumph.

Here we are, the hope of the world, in terms of nations whose conduct is preferably guided by the mutually nourishing principle of the sanctity of life, compelled to wreak death and destruction.

Must we be reduced to combating it in the murderously unethical mud out of which terrorism launches its salvos or is there a way to remain on a higher plane while we contend with it for world domination, truth, justice, and American TV?

Can we, in fact, triumph over what, at present, appears to be the illicit accomplishment of our faux-religious foes?

Would we be the folks in the white hats, albeit soiled, if we couldn’t?

But how might we achieve what presents itself as an unlikely distinction?

Why, simply by abstaining from being as unconscionably ruthless as the terrorists.

Sure, we have to defend ourselves, not to mention our precious infrastructure, which is, at its best, part of the common achievement, enhancement, and promise of the human race. Yes, we have to hunt them down and kill them before they kill more of us. But we don’t have to stoop to the level of savage immorality that they do when they kill or capture us.

Tempting as it is to disregard them as an inconvenience, we should abide by the most recognized rules of engagement, that is, the Geneva Conventions. Abide by them even though we realize that the ill-informed and immoral assassins and torturers we’re presently at war with do not qualify as enemy combatants, most justifiably because they themselves do not recognize such relatively humane agreements about how we should do battle with one another.

It is by putting ourselves firmly on the high ground of right conduct that we can remain above the terrorists, do what they may, and make them look, in the eyes of all unprejudiced humanity, like the lowdown criminals they have condemned themselves to be.

To go on a bit, with your patient indulgence at the brief suspension of laughter, in the defense of life, we must do our best never to harm and demean it and all we can to preserve and respect it. It is by being the champions of life that we can diminish and defeat those who have no care for it.

Let life be for life and death for death; then life must win, and death, in time, die.

Isn’t that right, me hearties?
premium wordpress templates

Stanley Kubrick is undoubtedly one of cinema’s true visionaries, having made films for the better part of half a century that have stood out as being some of the most unique films in history: ‘A Clockwork Orange’, ‘Full Metal Jacket’, ‘The Shining’ to name a few. I’m probably not as partial to his style, mainly because I find his films quite frustrating to watch (with the exception of Eyes Wide Shut). Sorry if I’ve offended the Kubrick purists out there, but although I recognise that he’s brilliant, I don’t think that necessarily makes his films easy to sit through. He really does take his time, minute by minute with each scene, and he tests an audience’s patience.

When I first watched ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, I came to it having heard the stories of its ‘classic’ status and was keen to check it out given that I’m quite the sci-fi buff. I’m still not sure what to think. The opening sequence of the Sun coming up over the Earth combined with that now infamous music by Richard Strauss is nothing short of jaw-dropping and left a very strong first impression. When I saw that, it seemed like a perfect opening that captured the grandness of space.

Yet, the film then starts to progress through a rather unformulaic way. There’s a story, and there isn’t. We follow the progress of man’s first step from being an ape to becoming what he is today, but after a few minutes of seeing those monkeys jump around in prehistoric times, I got the picture. I didn’t need to see more than that but you do. Then there’s the spectacular transition from one of the apes throwing a bone in to the air and it cuts to a spaceship of similar shape orbiting the Earth – a jump cut of a millenia! Then we get to see space ships and space stations dancing to the Blue Danube. It’s quite beautiful and very well directed, yet for a lot of people I can imagine them wondering: what the hell is going on here? Then we move to the more straight-forward part of the narrative where we meet the infamous HAL, an artificial intelligence that runs the spaceship Gary Lockwood and his astronauts are running. This part of the film is about man vs machine – the idea that all things being equal, a computer should be perfect, but as is so cleverly demonstrated by Kubrick, HAL is definitely not and by that token we shouldn’t put all our trust in a machine. And after the HAL storyline is resolved, we move to an extremely surreal journey through the cosmos where humanity meets its future with the famous image of the Star Child closing out the film, representing humanity’s infancy in the universe (a symbolic mirror of the opening when apes became men). It’s all very high concept, but you have to dig it out for yourself and I can imagine this might frustrate the casual viewer.

The film is a masterpiece. The film also depicts a very realistic vision of the Earth, the surface of the Moon, and our Solar System – impressive given the film was made before humanity went to the Moon. The images are nothing short of spectacular. What Kubrick does with the form will not be to everyone’s taste but at least you can appreciate the man for trying something different. Imagine that happening in Hollywood today…
About the Author:

There have been a large number of great Klingon episodes throughout the Star Trek franchise. From a few in the original, to taking things to Chronos in Next Generation. Deep Space Nine got a lot more into the Klingon culture when the war with the Dominion started and Worf joined the cast. Voyager only ventured into Klingon related episodes a couple times, as they were quite far from all Klingons except one. Here are the top 10 Klingon episodes in order.

#10 The Emissary (NG)
A mysterious rendezvous with a Federation Emissary. The Enterprise hurries to a probes location to pickup a half Klingon/human woman that goes by K’Ehleyr. She apparantely knows Worf, who isn’t glad to see her. She informs the crew that a Klingon battlecruise is on the way to a location that has been out of contact for 75 years. K’Ehleyr wants to destroy the ship before it attacks Federation outposts, but Captain Picard wants to avoid killing. Worf and K’Ehleyr work together who have a heated argument and don’t produce results. They meet on the holodeck and recover their romantic feelings. Worf wants to get married, but KEhleyr refuses and leaves. Worf comes up with a plan and receives control of the Enterprise from Captain Picard. He convinces the Klingon battlecruiser that the Federation isn’t at war. K’Ehleyr hints that she will return.

#9 Redemption (2 part episode)
Worf leaves to Kronos to restore his families honor. Worf convinces his brother to side with Gowron rather than the Duras family. The Duras sisters challenge Gowron’s claim to High Chancellor. Picard is once again involved as the Klingons decide he would be a neutral moderator. The Duras sisters seem suspicious as they meet with a Romulan women. A battle between Klingon ships ensues with the Enterprise staying neutral and backing away from the battle. Eventually Picard gives the High Chancellorship to Gowron and he restores Worf’s families honor.

Picard puts together a fleet of federation ships because to stop Romulan ships from reaching the Duras sisters. Data must overcome prejudice as he is selected to command one of the ships in the fleet. Sela (the Romulan women) reveals herself to Picard as Tasha’s daughter. Curious Picard meets with her and finds out she is telling the truth. Picard requests to Gowron that they attack Duras’ fleet so they must call for Romulan reinforcements. When Duras’ fleet is near defeated the Romulans try and disable the Federations detection grid. The Romulans target Data’s ship to disrupt it which puts makes the federation unable to continue the detection grid. Data proves his leadership as he single-handidly figures out where the Romulan ships are located. Worf escapes after having been kidnapped by the Duras sisters, and rejoins the Enterprise.

#8 A Matter of Honor
Commander Riker joins a Klingon crew as second in command in an officer exchange program. While researching for the assignment Cmdr. Riker learns from Worf that he may have to assassinate his Klingon Captain if he becomes unable to perfrom his duties. Riker must prove himself quickly as he attacks one of the Klingon crew members. The Enterprise discovers an alien on their hull and must find the Klingon ship to warn them as well. The Klingons discover the same life form on their hull, eating away, and blame the Enterprise and Riker for putting it there. Riker must decide to help the Klingons attack the Enterprise or find a way to convince them otherwise. Shows a great deal on life on a Klingon ship.

#7 Sins of The Father
Worf’s brother Kurn is assigned as first officer abord the Enterprise as part of an exchange program. After angering several crew members Kurn reveals to Worf that they are brothers. Kurn tells Worf that the Klingon High Council has accused their father Mogh of being a traitor on Khitomer, leading to the deaths of over 4,000 klingons. Worf being the elder brother, goes with Kurn and Captain Picard to fight the council’s decision. They discover there is much more to the accusations then they previously realized. Ultimately Worf decides to sacrifice his honor for the sake of the Klingon Empire.

#6 Birthright (2 part episode)
The Enterprise visits Deep Space 9 where Worf meets an alien named Jaglom Shrek. He claims that Worf’s father Mogh is still alive. That he was captured on Khitomer by Romulans. After the initial Anger, Worf find the alien and demands that he take him to the Romulan camp. Worf travels through the jungle to find that there were in fact Klingons being held in a camp. He finds several Klingons who tell him he shouldn’t be there, and then is captured by Romulans. As Worf lives with the Klingons and Romulans he learns some disturbing facts, but wins over the younger generation. Eventually they let Worf and the willing Klingon’s go, and they return to the Enterprise.

#5 Reunion
Worf’s former love interest K’Ehleyr comes aboard the Enterprise to moderate a dispute between two houses vaiing for the Chancellorship of the Klingon Empire. Chancellor K’mpec has been poisoned and wants Captain Picard to figure out who did it, Gowron or Duras. After a bomb goes off, the Enterprise investigates and Picard drags the proceedings as slowly as possible. K’Ehleyr informs Worf that the boy she brought onboard (Alexander), is Worf’s son. K’Ehleyr investigates into Worf’s dishonor, when Duras finds out, he kills her. Worf finds her, he goes to Duras’ ship to take his rightful revenge and kills Duras.

#4 Rightful Heir
Worf has a faith crisis, which leads him to taking a journey to immerse himself in the Klingon culture. Worf sees a vision of Kahless, the Klingon messiah, and it turns out to be more than a vision. The real Kahless appears to have returned. Gowron meets them on the Enterprise and brings an ancient weapon stained with Kahless’ blood to test if it is the real Kahless. Despite passing Gowron’s test, they battle and Gowron defeats Kahless. Worf doesn’t think that he could be the real Kahless, because the greatest wrarior wouldn’t have been beaten so easily. The High Priest informs him that Kahless is a clone of the original, when Gowron learns of it, he wants them executed. Worf convinces him to give Kahless the title of Emporer to help unite the Klingon race.

#3 Tackling Into the Wind
Gowron’s military strategies seem to be hurting the war efforts, Worf suspects they are to hurt General Martok. Worf tries to get Martok to challenge Gowrong to stop it. As Gowrong draws up suicidal battle plans that threaten the Federation’s chances in the war, Warf challenges him in battle, Warf Kills Gowron and is granted the title of High Chancellor. Warf refuses it, instead giving it to General Martok.

#2 Sword of Kahless
Kor recruits Dax and Worf to find the ancient Klingon weapon, called the Sword of Kahless. The goal of it is to unite the Klingon Empire. Fighting mercenaries and a telepath they eventually find it. Worf and Kor fight each other to take possession of the sword, but Dax brings them back to their senses. They decide the Klingon Emprie isn’t ready for the sword, so they beam it to space, until the empire is ready for it.

#1 Trouble With Tribbles
One of the funnest and funniest episodes of Star Trek to this day. The story begins with a priority distress call from a space station to the enterprise. When Kirk beams down to the space station, he finds that Klingons are already there. According to an agreement, the Klingons have to be allowed on the station. Kirk begrudgingly allows them so, as long as the same number of Starfleet officers are on at all times. Things heat up when the Klingons begin making fun of the Enterprise and her crew. It becomes a hilarious all out brawl that ends the ‘vacation’ on the station. The Klingons real intent is discovered later in the episode with from an unexpected source.

http://KlingonWeapons.com for the best Klingon info on the blog and especially weapons (such as Batleth [bat'leth]).
wedding countdown clock

The introduction to a story should be short and sweet, yet get to the point. It should sell what your story is about, and preferably it should be a cliffhanger. It should make your reader actually want to read your story.

Here is an excerpt from one of my stories:

The front door of the starship opened up, and the troops stood in two parallel lines, single file. They all put their arms over their chest. Orbital walked down the stairs and he was pleased to see his men being obedient, as they should be. He walked between the two lines of troops and took a good look at the sky.

(We are just outside the perimeter of the capital. Once the capital falls, then the Earth Military Forces will fall into chaos, which will lead us to victory.)

One of the troops stepped out of the line and approached him. “Lord Orbital, our sensors detected an intruder coming in from three o’clock.”

Orbital’s eyes squinted. “An intruder?”

Osborne, coming from the sky, landed on the grass. He was startled to see Orbital in person. This is the real thing. Up until now, he’s only heard about this person and seen him in pictures, but now he is facing the most important man in the entire empire. “Orbital…”

The fact that he came alone made Orbital curious.

Osborne did not care about how scared or overwhelmed he is by this man’s presence. “Orbital…You…you are the one responsible for this war! You were the one who destroyed Space Station Boaz, and now you want all earthlings to suffer?”

One of the Muraians stepped forward. “How dare you speak this way to Supreme Commander Orbital, the one who holds the highest position in Murai and the universe?!”

Orbital extended his arm, silently signaling the troop to stand aside. The troop obeyed at once.

“I sense some dissatisfaction in you, High Commander Osborne.”

Osborne was startled. “You know who I am? You’ve done your homework.”

“Of course. You are one of Headmaster Jerrell’s most important subordinates. You Galactic Police have been causing me a lot of trouble. You’ve become a nuisance…an eyesore.”

“Is that why you destroyed Boaz? So you can have your revenge?”

Orbital laughed. Osborne had no idea why he is laughing. He just grunted.

“This is not about revenge.” replied Orbital. “Boaz was merely a warning. It was a sign to the Alliance members not to interfere with us. But apparently you police did not take my warning seriously.”

Osborne got so mad that he charged energy into his fist. “You’ve already taken enough lives for your campaign. No more will the galaxy have to suffer at your hands!”

“My dear friend, you speak as if I have wronged. No, it is the opposite! I am doing this for the good of the galaxy.” replied Orbital. “All species seek to be ruled. The galaxy is diverse and unorganized, and I am merely providing a system to put everything in place. Planet earth is just begging to be ruled by us. The universe is made up of those who are ruled, and the rulers, and we are merely fulfilling our duties according to the Ko-Rashm.”

“You’re insane!!” Osborne charged forward and punched.

Orbital dodged the attacks swiftly. Osborne was fighting with his anger, he was a bag of hot air. Whoosh. Whoosh. Orbital dodged punch after punch. Osborne has had it, and he performed a high kick. Orbital jumped over him, somersaulted smoothly, and landed on the ground in a crouch.

Osborne turned around and charged forward and punched. “Yaaaaah!” However, his determination was a waste, as Orbital blocked his punch, and counter punched him in the face. Kapow!! Osborne fell to the ground and rolled a few times before coming to a stop.

The hero got back up, still determined to win. Orbital was able to damage him this much, that’s not bad for an old man.

“You are twenty years too early to be fighting against me.” taunted the tyrant. “I have been in the battlefield much longer than you have.”

Osborne powered up. “Tell that to someone who cares!” He fired a beam forward.

Orbital quickly pressed the switch on his bracelet, and he was surrounded by a shield. The beam hit the shield. Kaboom! The person inside was safe and unharmed. Osborne grunted and continued to fire non-stop. But none of them were able to penetrate the shield. Kaboom! Boom!

Osborne stopped firing after he grew tired.

Orbital gathered energy. “Now I will show you why they call me Orbital!” He released the energy into the air, and it took the form of a sphere, and it is an energy orb, a big glowing orb floating in the sky. Osborne had no idea what he was looking at, and he grew afraid. The orb went towards Osborne and zapped him by sending a ray to him. Zzzzzzzt!

Osborne screamed as his energy was being drained. He tried to resist, but it was too much for him, and he fell on his knees. “Uhhgh! Aaaaah!” Despite the torture, he still would not give up. He went forward and tried to grab his enemy. Orbital punched him hard, knocking him to the ground.

The floating orb went over to Osborne and continued to suck his energy. It was painful every second, and Osborne couldn’t get up.

As the orb sucked Osborne’s energy, it was feeding the energy to Orbital. Once Orbital had enough, he disabled the orb. The hero could barely move. Two soldiers came and grabbed him by the arms and lifted him up. He moaned in pain.

Troop A: “Sire, we should finish him off right away. He is a threat to our plans.”

“No.” Orbital replied. “He is one of the high commanders of the Galactic Police. He will be useful to us.”

“You w-won’t get away with it.” replied the fallen hero.

“And who is going to stop me? The Galactic Police? Ah hahahaha!”

Osborne came here, hoping to defeat the leader of the Empire, but he not only failed, but he became a prisoner. What does this madman have in mind for our hero?
disapparate
